The Bishop of RCCGÂ
Bishop Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, recently apologized for a previous statement implying that individuals who do not pay tithes would not enter heaven. During a sermon at the church’s youth convention, Adeboye expressed regret, clarifying that this assertion is not biblical. He emphasized the importance of living in peace and holiness as prerequisites for reaching heaven, stating, “What the Bible says is, ‘Follow peace with all men and holiness without which no man will make heaven'”. He reflected on how it is possible to be “right and wrong at the same time,” sharing his experience with scientific discoveries, like the understanding of light, to illustrate his point. Adeboye also discussed the practice of giving, suggesting that while the traditional 10 percent tithe is a starting point, believers should consider giving more as a demonstration of faith and financial dominion. He recounted a story from a convention in the United States, where a participant who began with a modest investment had promised significant donations based on his successful business growth, highlighting the principle of “violent giving”.
The ongoing disputes between Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, and Dr. Abel Damina have created a stir within the Nigerian Christian community, particularly regarding their differing views on tithing and doctrine.
